This week we are shopping for raw fruits and vegetables, yogurt, cheese, and a small quantity of meat and fish. We will be making the spicy condiment, Adzhika. This recipe includes Khmeli-Suneli, a blend of herbs and spices unique to this mountainous region. We will use this condiment with meat for our first Abkhazian meal tomorrow.  In addition to learning more facts about this country neighboring Georgia on the Eastern coast of the Black Sea, we will eat light and low-calorie meals just as they do.  This area is known for their people living very long lives. We will take from this knowledge to better our own lives and health.

    Sounds like a great spice blend!! AND we can the ingredients even here on Culebra!

    Oh…maybe not all of the ingredients for Khmeli-Suneli – any chance of putting in a source for some of the more unusual ingredients?

    The Adzhika is a condiment I would make again and again. It was really delicious with steak and would also be nice with tofu or chicken. It has just the right amount of spice and is very savory. You could put a small amount on the plate if you want unique flavor but do not want a sauce that drowns the main substance. It is not difficult to pair Adzhika with your side dish but we kept ours simple with a vegetable salad. Cheers!
